Unless your steel string has an unusually shaped or oversized neck, any of the model 1 capos listed above is for you. Some exceptions:

•  If your 6-string, steel string guitar’s neck is wider than most, it might require our model 3.  (12-string) capo.

•  If your steel string guitar’s neck is thicker than most, it might require our model S3v, specially designed for the thick necks on some vintage guitars.

•  If  your vintage Fender has the more extreme radius of 7.25″, then it should use our model 4.

If you discover that you have gotten the wrong model, we’ll swap with you for the right one. We provide an exchange form for convenience, but it is not required.

FRETBOARD RADIUS

Almost all steel string guitars have a radiused fretboard. There may be an occasional steel string with a flat fretboard, but they are rare; perhaps on custom built instruments.  For these rare instruments, our model 2 (“for Nylon String guitar”) is the right choice.

While the radii on steel string guitar fretboards are not all identical, they are well within the Shubb Capo’s range for a good fit. This is because its proprietary sleeve material is engineered to be ultra resilient; it conforms to the fretboard’s shape, while cushioning and pushing back on the strings … just like your finger does!

Unlike other Dobro capos that attach only to the strings, the Shubb clamps solidly to the neck to provide great tone. It uses the same patented locking action of our Shubb guitar capo, and it aligns by touching the fret, not by eye, making it fast and accurate. We’ve been making guitar capos for nearly forty years, utilizing our patented over-center locking principle. Its action most closely resembles that of the human hand, and we are confident that it is the most accurate capo in the world. Many of the top players will use nothing but a Shubb.

We have also been aware of some players who will always prefer a U-shaped, screw operated capo that can be stored behind the nut while not in use. For these players, we have now designed the Shubb Fine Tune Capo. It represents the highest quality of craftsmanship and materials, and offers a few unique features not seen before.

• Its innovative adjusting knob makes it the most ergonomic screw-operated capo.

• The knob maintains a fixed relationship with the frame, for improved ease of use, and for the lowest profile when stored behind the nut.

Replacement sleeves: our FineTune capos use a different sleeve than our other capos While one of our standard replacement sleeves CAN be used on a FineTune capo, it is thicker-walled, and will slightly alter the closing action of the capo. Unless you are specifically seeking more padding and a softer feel when closing, we suggest that you use the replacement sleeve that is made for the FineTune capo.

Model: FS

This was the product that got it all started for us back in 1974, and to this day it's STILL the only fifth string capo worth putting on a banjo. It operates on a lever principle, not a spring, so it provides sufficient pressure to fret the string without muting the tone. It slides on a slim, dovetailed bar which mounts flush to the neck, making it sturdy and unobtrusive. Originally, our fifth string capo bar was eight inches long, and attached to the banjo neck with three mounting screws. A few years ago we remodeled the bar, a change which I'd long considered. I personally never capo the fifth string any higher than the tenth fret (this would go along with the regular capo being at the fifth fret). So for my own banjo, I made a custom bar which was much shorter (5.75").This shorter bar is now our standard size. Besides taking up less space on the neck (for you fellow thumb-wrappers), it offers the additional advantage of using only TWO mounting screws instead of three. Short bar nickel plated

The 6-String Acoustic Capo can be used on wider profiles but not as far up the neck. The bar is more stable allowing it to have more precision with less spring. Precision adjustments will allow total control over pressure on the strings giving them the best possible sound.
