Pāua is the Maori (native New Zealand) name for a species of abalone whose shells are the most beautiful and colorful. Luthiers often use Pāua shell for the inlays on their most special guitars. Fine jewelry crafted from the shells are known as Pāua Pearls.

When we came up with this new finish, its dazzling iridescence reminded us of paoa pearls, and so that became its name. It uses the same durable titanium process as our other Capo Royale models, so its color-shifting beauty will last practically forever. And like the Pāua shell itself, no two are exactly alike. Randomly occurring color patterns mean that no one else’s Pāua Pearl capo will look exactly like yours!

Tradional slide players use their pinky to attach their tubular slide to and are forced to keep it on during the course of a tune, but that's about to change. With the AX Reversible Guitar Slide, not only do you have the option of using different fingers, but its special 2-piece design allows the "sleeve" portion to be rotated in less than a second so that the finger it's attached to can be used unencumbered for normal finger playing. The move itself is done with one hand, so quickly that it doesn't interupt a solo. The Delrin ring section comes with four ring sizes to accomodate most players.

I (Rick Shubb) was introduced to the concept of partial capoing many years ago by the great acoustic guitarist Harvey Reid and by Jeff Hickey, who developed the Third Hand capo (an elastic capo designed exclusively for partial capoing). These guys both were users of Shubb capos for "regular" capoing, but were WAY into the possibilities of partial capoing. In addition to using a Third Hand, I noticed that Harvey had modified one of his Shubb capos by cutting it down so that it skipped the outside string and covered only the next three. He got some really wonderful sounds with this partial capo. Shortly thereafter I saw Chris Proctor using one he had customized, evidently inspired by Harvey. A few years later I met Adrian Legg, who was introduced to me by John Pearse as "the best guitar player in Europe," which is no exaggeration. I noticed that he, too, was using a sawed-off Shubb capo quite a lot, as an integral part of his amazing guitar style. Adrian, Harvey, Chris, and Jeff had urged me for quite some time to put an end to this wanton mutilation of Shubb capos, and to actually make one ourselves that would do the job. In 1995 we introduced our partial capo, and it has been growing in popularity ever since.

We’ve been making guitar capos for nearly forty years, utilizing our patented over-center locking principle. Its action most closely resembles that of the human hand, and we are confident that it is the most accurate capo in the world. Many of the top players will use nothing but a Shubb.

We have also been aware of some players who will always prefer a U-shaped, screw operated capo that can be stored behind the nut while not in use. For these players, we have now designed the Shubb Fine Tune Capo. It represents the highest quality of craftsmanship and materials, and offers a few unique features not seen before.

Replacement sleeves: our FineTune capos use a different sleeve than our other capos While one of our standard replacement sleeves CAN be used on a FineTune capo, it is thicker-walled, and will slightly alter the closing action of the capo. Unless you are specifically seeking more padding and a softer feel when closing, we suggest that you use the replacement sleeve that is made for the FineTune capo.

Model: FS

This was the product that got it all started for us back in 1974, and to this day it's STILL the only fifth string capo worth putting on a banjo. It operates on a lever principle, not a spring, so it provides sufficient pressure to fret the string without muting the tone. It slides on a slim, dovetailed bar which mounts flush to the neck, making it sturdy and unobtrusive. Originally, our fifth string capo bar was eight inches long, and attached to the banjo neck with three mounting screws. A few years ago we remodeled the bar, a change which I'd long considered. I personally never capo the fifth string any higher than the tenth fret (this would go along with the regular capo being at the fifth fret). So for my own banjo, I made a custom bar which was much shorter (5.75").This shorter bar is now our standard size. Besides taking up less space on the neck (for you fellow thumb-wrappers), it offers the additional advantage of using only TWO mounting screws instead of three. Short bar nickel plated

Plain, unplated brass will darken in time. For those of us who appreciate brass, we prefer this look; reminiscent of an old microscope, or a piece of gear from a sailing ship. But if you like your brass to shine, it can be polished with a cloth and most any commercial metal polish.

Our original, plain brass capo is a natural for those who fancy a retro look.

When the Shubb capo was first introduced about 40 years ago, guitarists throughout the world fell in love with it. They’re still in love with it today. We’ve given it a few tweaks through the years, but its basic mechanical principle remains the same: a unique over-center locking mechanism that provides an unrivaled combination of power, speed, accuracy and ease of use. One smooth flip of the lever locks it securely in place, and removes it just as quickly.

And the Shubb capo is BY FAR the best at not creating tuning problems. Its soft, resilient rubber is specially designed to work just like a fingertip, so it doesn’t bend the strings over the frets. Its closing action is just like your hand, so it doesn’t pull the string off center. As a result, no re-tuning is necessary!
